Examining Crops

Atarya Agro

About us

Atarya Agro is a project that collects, conserves, and propagates local and endangered rice varieties, which have unique characteristics and benefits. Inspired by the stories of the rich and diverse rice varieties that used to grow in the region, but were lost due to the dominance of high-yielding and water-intensive varieties. The project aims to revive and revitalize these rare and overlooked rice varieties, which have a much lower carbon footprint and align with the climate change adaptation and mitigation goals. The project also collaborates with local agricultural colleges, where these endangered crops are further researched and improved. The mission of the project is to safeguard and preserve local and endangered rice varieties, and to disseminate them to the community

What we do

At Atarya Agro, we are not just rice growers and distributors. We are also educators, innovators, and advocates of traditional and sustainable agriculture. We collect, conserve, and propagate local and endangered rice varieties that have unique characteristics and benefits. We also develop new rice varieties that require less water and emit less methane. We promote biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and traditional agricultural knowledge. We distribute rice saplings and seeds to the community for free, and provide guidance and support on how to grow and care for them. We conduct workshops and experience zones, where we teach and demonstrate the sustainable and traditional farming methods. We invite local farmers and other stakeholders to visit our fields and witness the results and impact of our project.

What we offer

At Atarya Agro, we offer a unique opportunity to be part of a project that is making a positive difference in the world. By supporting our project, you will help us to:

01

Conserve biodiversity

By collecting and preserving rare rice varieties, we are protecting the genetic diversity of rice, which is essential for its adaptation and evolution. We are also promoting the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems that support rice cultivation.

02

Reduce environmental impact

By distributing and growing rice varieties that require less water, we are saving precious freshwater resources and reducing the pressure on groundwater sources. By adopting practices that reduce methane emissions from paddies, we are lowering the greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the effects of climate change.

03

Improve food security

By providing local farmers with access to rare and nutritious rice varieties, we are improving their food security and income. We are also enhancing the quality and quantity of rice production, which can benefit the local and global food supply.
